RE: DC Circuit problem. What am I messing up?

If the blue wire is coming out of the switch, find the other wire out of the switch. There has to be two wires out of the switch for it to connect. Connect one of the wires to both of your two black supply wires. Connect the second wire out of the switch to one of the white wires to your light. Connect the other white wire on your light to both of your two white supply wires.
If this doesn't work try connecting one of the light's white wires to the supply black wires and the other to the supply white wires (do not connect the blue wire). The light should now light. If not you have a bad light fixture or bulb.

RE: DC Circuit problem. What am I messing up?

What do you mean the fixture tested bad?
What did you test?
What kind of fixture is it? Fluorescent? Incandescent? LED?
If the new fixture shows no resistance, Is the switch on? Do you have a bulb in it? is the bulb good? If the switch is on and there is a bulb in it and it is an incandescent light, then either the switch or the bulb is bad.
The blue wire is from the switch? The other side of the switch should be connected to one of the white wires. the blue wire then should connect to both of your black "supply" wires. The other white wire should be connected to both of the white "supply" wires.
It is often that lighting fixtures use the same color wires for hookup because it doesn't matter which way you hookup a light, especially in a 12V DC circuit.
The reason you have 2 Black and 2 white wires is that you are in the center of a supply run. 2 of the wires are from the power source (Battery) and the other two go on to other lights. They must be connected together for the other lights on down the line to work.
Good Luck, Jerry

RE: LPG system: Faulty Detector or Det Shutoff Valve???

It will some times take as long as a minute for the gas lines to fill with gas and purge the air when you first turn on the valve at the tank. I think you are just not waiting long enough.
1. Turn on the LP detector. On some coaches, like mine, it also controls the flow of gas.
2. Turn on the valve at the tank.
3. Go inside and turn on a burner at the stove.
4. With lit match in hand, wait for the gas to reach that burner.
When the burner lights you know you have gas in the system.
5. Turn on the other LP appliances. I think all will now start.
Good luck,
Jerry

RE: Double pane window reflection / Generator fuel usage

Take a good look at the window. I had the same problem. The window has lost the seal and you are getting moisture between the panes. I put in a new window and it was like night and day.

RE: How to measure power usage??

If you plan to use the full 30A that your rig is wired for, its 30A X 120V = 3600 Watts. Your Maximum power usage.
Otherwise use the 15A meter and check each appliance, then add up your results for the total.
All major appliances, like your AC units have their power usage marked on their labels. Either in watts or in amps. If in amps, just multiply the amps times the voltage to get the watts.

RE: Holding Tank Vents

Why not just add a union and additional pipe, of whatever length you want, above the roof instead of taking the chance of breaking something?
I know one thing for sure, the pipe should be attached, by some sort of clamp, to the wall that it runs through, above the tank.

RE: White roof turning black?

My roof was fine until I got the bright idea to use rubber roof protectorate from CW. Black spots started showing up right away and nothing I did would remove them. It got so bad the entire roof was gray. Looked awful.
I had it replaced completely for nearly $5,000 and it in fact does have a black backing as part of the EDPM but that's not what the black spots are. They are mold spots and the sealer prevents the moisture from drying out so the mold just grows and grows. 10 years in about as long as they last unless you're lucky. Look for very fine cracks with a magnifying glass showing up after 8 years or so.
Nothing but soap and water on my new roof. I learned the hard way.
Rick
You are absolutely correct!
My coach was built in the 4th month of 1998, so its now 10 years and 4 months old. It has never had anything but mild soap used on it twice a year. It is still in perfect condition and has just under 2 years to run on it's 12 year warranty.
If you follow the directions of the manufacturer, you should have 15 to 20 years of life with an EPDM roof. Check the material out. They use the same material on commercial buildings! If you screw around with special cleaners and coatings I will bet it won't even last to the end of the warranty. And then you will find that the manufacturer won't help you because you violated the warranty. JMHO!!

RE: White roof turning black?

Thank you , that sounds exactly like my case. So the EPDM is a coating over the rubber roof and not the entire rubber roof itself. That I did not know. Did your roof leak before you applied the liquid roof? And do you think it would be a bad thing to just have the black rubber exposed?
And do you remember about how much of the liquid roof it took to do your size of roof?

RE: Where to get valves for RV plumbing?

Howdy,
What is the preferred connection method for polybutylene pipe? Barbed fitting with a hose clamp? Something else?
The fittings in place right now look to be plastic as well, also grey.
Thanks for the help on this!
Mark
(oh... This RV is new to us, but we store it in a mine storage place over the winter, so we don't typically need to winterize. I want a valve on the water heater because I had a small leak with the current one and was surprised that I couldn't shut off water to it without killing water suppy to the entire RV)
Ther gray pipe is still available at Home Depot.
I have it in my home and have replaced all I can reach. The shark fittings are the easiest to use. Go to Home depot and they will help you with how it's done.
OBTW, Camping World sells a by-pass kit for yout water heater. I installed one in an 84 Komfort 5er. It wasn't hard at all.

RE: White roof turning black?

Well EPDM is white all the way through so there's no way the white can wash away. The protector you are using is probably causing your trouble. Sure the RV dealer wants you to use it twice a year, he likes the money.
Read your Owners manual. The usual warranty is 12 years IF you never put anything on it! The manufacturer of EPDM roofing material clearly states Never put anything on it except liquid EPDM.
Quote from the manufacturer:
For RV, Trailer, Mobile Home and Camper Owners Use Liquid Roof
Click here for RV Project With Photos. Stop making the same roof repairs every year using other products. Rv leaks and Rv roof leaks are fixed right the first time with Liquid Roof. Print RV applications instructions here.. Did you know the average RV has at least five penetrations through its roof-skylights, refrigerator vents, air conditioner and plumbing vent? Each of these has a flashing around it. The roof skin has three or four seams and must also be sealed around the entire perimeter. Most manufacturers will apply acrylic or butyl rubber caulk around the roof penetrations and seams to seal against the intrusion of water. Initially the caulks are flexible and adhere tightly to the surface; however, after five or six years of continuous exposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun plus the ozone in our atmosphere, a gradual embrittlement and loss of adhesion occurs in these caulks. This process eventually leads to cracking and then to leaks. The application of Liquid Roof will greatly delay the onset of age-related problems with caulks. Trailers and RV', campers, house boats etc all have some portion of the roof which will pond water. For those of you living in the Gulf states you experience sudden afternoon showers. Those in the northern states experience rapid temperature drops late in the day during Spring and Fall. These kinds of situations might result in acrylic coating products being partially if not totally destroyed. Do not apply Liquid Roof over cream color ALPHA rubber. It is best to check with the manufacturer regarding your current roof system. Liquid Roof is the best and also the most cost effective product for solving this problem.

RE: Where to get valves for RV plumbing?

First.. You should already HAVE such a valve, it's your water heater bypass valve.
Don't be so sure. It was built in 1984!

RE: Where to get valves for RV plumbing?

Home Depot. I believe it's called Pex. You can get Shark fittings that are like compression fittings or just use the regular glued together fittings that you now have. There are gray fittings and pipe that are usually used in homes and almond colored ones. I have the almond colored pipes in my rig.
